Tom Donegan is a freelance project manager and curator-producer, specialising in creating book-themed events and exhibitions for children and young adults.
From 2007-11 Tom was Programme Officer with Children’s Books Ireland (CBI), with responsibility for core elements such as the national Children’s Books Festival and CBI Annual Conference, as well as one-off collaborations such as the StorySpark season of children’s literature and storytelling at The Ark.
Over the past three years he has worked with a number of different festivals, arts venues, and public library services to create innovative programmes targeting young readers and their families. Recent projects include co-curating the family and schools programmes for Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival in 2012 and 2013 (with Sarah Webb), devising the You Create children’s workshop seasons at the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire, plus a wide-ranging series of exhibitions and events at the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge, Co Kildare.
2013 also saw him undertake a six-month tour of schools in the West of Ireland with the Laureate na nOg International Library, before joining the programming team at The Story Museum in Oxford to assist with their forthcoming ‘26 Characters’ exhibition, which will launch the refurbished museum in May.
Other activities taking place in Spring 2014 include the We ‘♥’ Books Tour (funded by the Arts Council Touring and Dissemination of Work Scheme) which will see Tom leading a national tour featuring 12 of Ireland’s favourite children’s authors and illustrators in celebration of World Book Day.
Currently assisting The Story Museum in Oxford as they prepare to open their doors with the fantastic new ’26 Characters’ exhibition in April 2014.
